The Lydd-based Coastguard rescue helicopter team and crew of the RNLI Newhaven lifeboat are the worthy recipients of this year’s International Ocean Safety Award for the hazardous joint operation to rescue an injured sailor stranded aboard his yacht.

A forecast of strong winds over the weekend put paid to the planned Team Racing. In the event, it was spot on for Saturday but team racing on Sunday would have undoubtedly been possible, however setting everything up for one day was simply not practical.

This year’s Pindar Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the International Association of Cape Horners goes to Sir Robin Knox-Johnston KB CBE RD.

The fleet were met by cold, bright, sunny conditions and glassy seas. The wind, 6-8kts W-WNW, had dropped off significantly after the strong winds of the early hours, with the only evidence being a large swell left behind.

The IOCA UK Optimist Winter Championships were held over 15-16th November hosted by Rutland Sailing Club with 128 Optimists travelling to compete on a chilly and wet weekend. The British winter was not enough to dampen their spirits.

At the recent ILCA Annual General Meeting, Mark Lyttle was elected as the new President of the ILCA Class Association. With decades of experience he now steps into the role with enthusiasm.

It was enough wind to pull off three scheduled races on Day 3 of the 2025 J/70 Turkish Championship and opening stage of Tenzor International Cup Winter Series.

Day 4, “the finals” of the 2025 Harken International Youth Match Racing Championship began with a delayed start as the race committee waited for “any” breeze to build.
